Rediscovering the Joy of Running: My Experience as a 2:20 Half Marathon Pacer
Coach Janelle
Running has always been my passion, but like any long-term relationship, there have been ups and downs. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to serve as a 2:20 half marathon pacer at the Calgary Marathon on Sunday, May 28th. Little did I know that this experience would reignite my love for the sport and remind me of the true essence of running. In this blog post, I want to share how this race brought back my enthusiasm, renewed my purpose, and validated my decision to become a virtual running coach.
Reconnecting with My Love for Running:
As I stood at the starting line, pacing the 2:20 group, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement and anticipation. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the collective energy of fellow runners, enthusiastic spectators, and dedicated volunteers. It was a stark reminder of the sense of community that running fosters—a bond that transcends individual performances.
Shifting My Mindset:
During the race, as we settled into a steady pace, I realized that my role as a pacer was not just about finishing within a specific time; it was about inspiring and supporting others in their own running journeys. As I cheered on participants, offering words of encouragement and motivation, I witnessed the power of a positive mindset. Seeing the determination and resilience in their eyes reminded me of the strength we all possess.
Embracing the Joy and Fun:
The race day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a genuine sense of joy. I found myself engaging with not only the runners but also the spectators and volunteers along the course. The smiles, high-fives, and words of appreciation shared between us created an unforgettable experience. It became evident that running is not solely about competition or personal performance; it's about embracing the joy of the journey and finding happiness in the shared moments.
Reaffirming My Purpose:
This half marathon pacing experience validated my decision to become a virtual running coach. Witnessing the impact I had on others' running experiences, from first-time racers to seasoned veterans, solidified my belief in the transformative power of coaching and mentorship. It reminded me of why I am passionate about helping individuals achieve their goals, overcome obstacles, and discover their own love for running.
Final Thoughts:
The Calgary Marathon served as a catalyst, reigniting my love for running and reinforcing my belief in the positive impact it can have on our lives. It reminded me that running is about more than just personal achievements—it's about supporting our community, having fun, and spreading joy. If we approach running with the right mindset, every step becomes a celebration, and every race becomes an opportunity to inspire and be inspired.
So, let's lace up our shoes, embrace the journey, and remember that if we're not having fun, then the results don't even matter. Let's run together, cheer for one another, and make every run a joyful experience.
